Amazing in its grandeur but it is truly difficult for the average chorus. Bravo Collegium Vocale Ghent and Freiburg Baroque Orchestra for doing such a fantastic work of it. My choir sung his Sepulto Domino on 21 Oct 2023 and I was completely mesmerised by his harmonic language. At once shimmering and the chord progression, unexpected.

Absolument fabuleux. Quel dommage que ce compositeur baroque Tchèque soit trop peu connus. Il est vrai qu'il vivait à l'époque de J.S. Bach quj, lui, est passé à la postérité. Espérons que cette injustice sera réparée.

Zelenka napisał to dzieło anachronicznie, tzn. dostosował tu swój styl do upodobań muzycznych zmarłego "szefa" (Augusta II). August III musiał być mocno zniesmaczony, słuchając tego dzieła, tak odbiegającego od jego własnych, jakże nowoczesnych upodobań estetycznych. Charles Burney, pierwszy historyk muzyki nowożytnej, powiedziałby zapewne o tej muzyce: siła dominuje nad uczuciem.

Terrific use of the upper register voices in this. Pure and without vibrato.

Loved the performance, but 8:17 shows six giant candlesticks in the altar area. This is very odd and just goes to show how much people (even priests) have forgotten about number symbolism in Catholicism. The "normal" number of giant candlesticks would be four (The four gospels, the four corners of the Earth, the four rivers that flow from Eden, etc.). Six is not a particularly good number (666 in Revelation, etc.). I've visited hundreds of churches and cathedrals and never seen six Giant Candlesticks in the altar area before.

although the quality of the recording is very compromised, it is nonetheless a treat to hear the wonderful Delphine Galou, who is magnetic as always.

What a glorious piece of music 🎵! And so joyfully played sung and conducted. I would love to sing it or play timpani in it. What a shame it's never performed.
